FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an area of the Tonto National Forest northeast of Phoenix will be temporarily closed to target shooting this weekend during a volunteer cleanup event.
The closure will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Four Peaks-Sugarloaf area for the safety of those participating.
Amy Racki, partnership coordinator for the Tonto National Forest, says all volunteers are welcome, even those recreational target shooters who are looking for something else to do in the area.
Volunteers will be working to clean up shooting pits and are encouraged to bring gloves, rakes and shovels.
Anyone interested in participating can find information at www.mrdvolunteers.org .
