Bradley W. Atwell & Christopher K. RaibleYUMA, Ariz. (AP) - A U.S. Marine Corps squadron that lost its commander to an insurgent attack on their base in Afghanistan is returning home to Yuma.
Members of Marine Attack Squadron 211 are arriving Thursday and Friday after spending much of the year at Camp Bastion in southern Afghanistan.
Squadron commander Lt. Col. Christopher K. Raible and a sergeant were killed in a Sept. 15 insurgent attack on the base that destroyed six Harrier jets. Two others were damaged.
Marine Corps Air Station spokeswoman Capt. Staci Reidinger says the squadron had more than 200 marines deployed to Afghanistan and about 30 returned in late September.
