Suspect catches on fire during siphoning attempt

MESA, Ariz. -

A white truck slammed into the front of a valley home Wednesday night and erupted in flames. But it's what triggered this wreck that made things a whole lot worse for the driver.

The scene at Signal Butte and Broadway just went from bad to worse.

A man was trying to siphon gas out of the truck when he and the truck caught fire – and then the burning truck rolled into a house, causing the fire to spread to the house.

Luckily, no one was home at the time -- but there were kids walking home from school when the truck came barreling through.

Kaitlynn Baxter saw the truck coming and pushed another child out of the way.

The suspected thief took off down the street, but was captured.

We've obtained surveillance video from neighbor Mitchell Drum showing the whole debacle. In fact, Drum chased after the suspect when he started running away.

FOX 10's Kristen Keogh has more.
