Tempe Police continue to work toward enhancing community safety by kicking off a new sex offender notification program.
It's called OffenderWatch, geared toward protecting children as they trick-or-treat this Halloween. On Halloween night, Tempe PD will hold an operation monitoring Level 2 and 3 sex offenders.
Community members can sign up on the Tempe PD website to receive alerts to notify if a sex offender moves into their neighborhood.
The information on sexual offenders will be placed in a single online database for easy access.
"It will have like push pins to show us where exactly on the map it's going to be, and if I want more details I can pull up the push pin and get the face of the person, I can pull up their information getting more details about what kind of crime they did, whether it's a crime against children or not," says Naomi Galbraith, Tempe PD.
"It has truly made keeping track of our registered sex offenders more efficient, more effective," says Tempe Police Sgt. Scott Smith.
OffenderWatch is now available for viewing on the main page of the Tempe Police website. You can search by address, name, or by city -- and also plot sex offenders on a map.
More than 1,000 agencies across the country already use the OffenderWatch program. The information updates instantaneously -- so as soon as someone new moves into the neighborhood, it will show up on the site.
