SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - With so many people looking for work these days, it's hard to stand out in the crowd.
Link Howard, president and CEO of Powerlink Facilities Management, has hired several hundred people locally in 2012 and says he's developed keys that he looks for to find applicants that stand out from the crowd.
They include:
Passion matters: For many of our positions, we can train a new hire to do the work, but we can't teach or train them to have passion for what they do everyday. We need people who truly care about our clients and are willing to go above and beyond to serve them.
Presentation matters: Part of taking pride in yourself and your work is taking pride in the way you look.
Flexibility matters: Powerlink needs team members who are willing to adapt to our culture and expectations.
Following instructions matters: One of the easiest ways to remove yourself from contention is to not follow basic instructions. We often ask candidates to do the following: 1) Come to our office at a specific time, 2) Be appropriately dressed, 3) Complete their resume and application online, and 4) Not to bring anyone with them.
Diversity matters: We will always hire the best person for a job, but, with clients in a variety of industries and communities, we need to reflect that diversity in our team members.
Two current open jobs:
Stationary Engineer: Must possess high or low pressure boiler operator license Knowledge and experience with basic steam plant operations Customer Service Oriented
Housekeeper: At least 2 years Hotel or Health Care Cleaning Experience Ability to handle work independently and at a high pace Customer Service Oriented Floor Care experience a plus
