ROMULUS, Mich. -- He's a former deputy mayor and the former Detroit School Board president.  Anthony Adams has held some high profile positions.  He's also an attorney and knows the law.

However, Adams is accused of breaking the law Thursday evening when he tried to get through security at Metro Airport's McNamara Terminal with a gun in his carry-on luggage.

"I just simple forgot that it was in my computer bag.  I was rushing to catch a flight.  I got to the airport late, and rush, rush, rush, rush," Adams said.

We spoke to him by phone Friday as he was boarding his flight.  He says Thursday night, he and his wife were supposed to fly out for their nephew's confirmation, but he ended up being arrested instead.

Adams does have a CCW.  He is licensed to carry that gun, he just carried it to the wrong place, which he is the first to admit.

"Don't be in a rush trying to get to the airport to catch a flight.  You miss that flight, there will be another plane," said Adams.

He was questioned by airport police.  The case is still under investigation, but Adams says he certainly can't fault security for doing their job.

"I'll pay my fines and keep moving," said Adams.
