Spirit Halloween brings holiday spirit to hospitalized kids

PHOENIX -

Halloween is two weeks away, and a lot of people are getting ready -- including the patients at Phoenix Children's Hospital, with the help of a popular Halloween store.

It's hard for kids to trick or treat in the hallways of Phoenix Children's Hospital. But there's a party going on the second floor with the Power Rangers, pumpkins and all things Halloween.

Emma Dean is one of the first guests, busy painting her pumpkin. She's been in and out of the hospital since she was born. Her mother Debbie is grateful.

"I think she really enjoys it. She doesn't miss out being in the hospital. It gives her that experience."

Spirit Halloween is bringing the fantasy and fun to these kids. Their stores are filled with costumes and decorations.

"No time is a good time to be in the hospital and especially on a holiday when other kids are doing things you can't do, so we bring the holiday to children," says Vivian Rubun of Spirit Halloween.

It's not just for patients -- it's also for their brothers and sisters who spend a lot of time in the hospital.

Bailey Whitman says this is a nice break for her nephew Gage.

"He loves it. His brother is here, he gets to play instead of being so upset upstairs."

It looks like the party is a big success.

In addition to the Halloween parties, Spirit Halloween has raised millions of dollars for children's hospitals across the country, including Phoenix Children's Hospital.
