The 5-year-old Phoenix boy who was killed Monday by a fallen TV has been identified.

Family members had left 5-year-old Isaiah Hernandez alone in a bedroom Monday morning to watch TV. When they came to retrieve him for lunch, they found the TV had fallen off the night stand and Isaiah was underneath it.

"They found him with a large old-style picture tube television on top of him on the floor in the bedroom," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump on Monday.

A relative performed CPR and an ambulance took him to the hospital, but he died as a result of his injuries.

The tube television weighed approximately 165 pounds, and was perched on a stand much too small to adequately keep the large TV stable.

Police have learned that Isaiah used to sit on the floor while watching television, and since the remote had recently gone missing, he would use the controls on the bottom of the set to change channels.

Police say there are no prior incidents in this family, and are awaiting results from the medical examiner's office. The investigation is ongoing.

In the meantime, officers are using this as an example of how furniture and TV sets can pose a huge risk to children if they aren't anchored to walls.

"There are kits you can purchase at any home improvement stores that can help secure these items," said Crump. "We have got to do a better job at securing these to the walls."
