PHOENIX (AP) - A Nevada man has been cited in a hit & run crash that damaged a freeway overpass near downtown Phoenix.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials announced Tuesday that 32-year-old Shayne Skougard, of North Las Vegas, could face jail time and severe fines and also have his commercial drivers' license suspended.
They say Skougard was identified as the semi-truck driver who was hauling an oversized load that struck the overpass on Oct. 4.
Authorities say the crash damaged 5 of the bridge's girders above the southbound lanes of Interstate 17.
Arizona Department of Transportation officials are developing repair plans and working with a contractor to determine the cost of restoring the damaged girders.
DPS says Skougard was cited for violating the oversize permit restrictions, causing the crash and hit & run.
