PHOENIX -
A 23-year-old man died after running into a signal light pole in the intersection of McDowell Road and 39th Avenue early Saturday morning.
Witnesses told police Luis Fernandez Jr. was driving at a high speed when he tried to make a turn and collided with a signal pole at the intersection.
The impact caused such extreme damage to the passenger side of the car that Fernandez had to be pulled out of the car.
Fernandez was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries.
Police said Fernandez didn't look like he was wearing his seatbelt and they don't know if alcohol was involved yet.
