PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne is accused of illegally coordinating his 2010 election campaign with a pro-Horne group that was supposed to be acting independently.
But what would otherwise be a dry campaign finance case resulting from an FBI investigation has its tabloid elements too.
Documents disclose that the FBI had Horne under surveillance. One such occasion has led to a police investigation of an alleged hit & run accident. Agents say Horne was driving with a female assistant attorney general to the lawyer's apartment complex.
The March bumper-touch occurred at a time when a lawyer for a Horne political ally was complaining to prosecutors that out-of-control FBI agents were asking Horne employees about he was having an affair.
Horne denies wrongdoing in either campaign finance matters or the accident.
