TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A young woman died and two other were injured when a compact car they were riding in rolled on Tucson's west side.
Northwest Fire District spokesman Capt. Adam Goldberg says bystanders were able to get a trapped 18-year-old woman out of the car before crews arrived early Sunday.
Marymar Martinez-Duran died at University of Arizona Medical Center. Another 18-year-old woman had serious injuries and a third was slightly hurt.
Pima County Sheriff's spokeswoman deputy Renee Carlson says a group of young friends had been drinking at a lookout near Gates Pass and were heading back to Tucson when two cars began racing.
Carlson says both drivers lost control and crashed into the desert.
The driver of the car carrying the women was arrested on manslaughter, assault, endangerment and drunken-driving charges.
