As many people know, rock star Alice Cooper lives here in the valley with his wife Sheryl. They do a lot of good for the community and now they're opening a center to help teens -- getting them off the streets and into the arts.
Welcome to the Rock Teen Center near 32nd Street and Thunderbird. Alice and Sheryl have been dreaming, waiting and working to open this center for the past 15 years.
"Why not get kids out on streets getting in trouble and say come on in, use bass, use guitar, learn drums, here's a kid that may be selling drugs and can play guitar. He doesn't know it yet," said Alice.
The center will be open Monday through Friday from 2pm to 8pm, offering free music and dance classes.
"Dance is what I know and what I do, so we've got ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary. We have even started our own dance company," said Sheryl.
"Schools are cutting their music programs. They're not able to fund that, so this is a great place for them to come, escape through music and dance and come explore that," said Mark Savale of The Rock Teen Center.
Inside, there's plenty of places to hang out, take classes, even an area to get help with homework.
My favorite room -- the teen room -- is where kids can just come and hang out, but behind a wall is a huge warehouse. Eventually, they are going to expand it to a basketball court and recording studio.
So as Alice continues to travel the world, appearing on red carpets and performing, his heart is still right here at home and right here at the Rock.
The Rock's grand opening is Saturday from Noon to 3 p.m. with a special performance by Alice at 2:30 p.m.
