Police arrested a suspect who allegedly murdered a 49-year-old man Monday night near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road.
The suspect, 37-year-old Waleed Hanif Gipson, allegedly shot James Lyle Indihar in the back of the head at an apartment complex in Phoenix.
Officers found out Indihar was found in an apartment being rented by a woman named Deliah Dunn and she was in the process of being evicted from the complex.
Dunn wasn't at the apartment when detectives arrived but after talking to her on the phone, she agreed to meet them for an interview.
Police said according to Dunn, on Sept. 28 Indihar asked her to find a Black man for him to have sex with.
On Monday, Dunn brought Gipson and another man she called El, whom she already knew, to her apartment, police said.
Dunn told police she went into her bathroom and thought she heard a firecracker go off. When she came out, she saw Indihar lying on top of the dining room table but said she didn't know he was hurt.
Gibson told Dunn he wanted to leave and after she dropped the two men off, she talked to Gipson on the phone and told her he shot her friend, police said.
Dunn identified Gipson from a prior booking photo and police arrested him on Tuesday near 17th Street and Indian School Road.
Gipson told police he suffers from blackouts and does not remember if he has ever been to Dunn's apartment.
When police searched Gipson's apartment, they found a red shirt matching Dunn's description of what Gipson was wearing Monday night at her apartment. The shirt appeared to have blood stains on it.
Gipson faces charges of premeditated first degree murder.
