PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona authorities say they've recovered more than $300,000 worth of copper stolen from a mining company in Hayden.
State Department of Public Safety officials say the copper was found at a residence in Marana after a search warrant was served Sept. 27. Also found at the same location and seized were three truck-tractors, three semi-trailers, one forklift and two handcarts.
The copper was taken from the ASARCO Mining Corporation.
DPS says the copper was found in the form of ingots, which are 4-foot-tall plates that are 4-feet wide and weigh about 880 pounds.
The warrant was obtained using information from a traffic stop on Interstate 10, where DPS officials found 48 copper ingots in the trailer of a commercial vehicle. Also found were 54 stolen copper ingots identified by ASARCO.
