When you sit down to get your haircut, you can talk about just about anything with your stylist -- from your kids to your marriage to your job -- but these days the talk has turned to the dreaded topic of politics.
At salons around the country, talk has turned to red states, blues states, Obama care and the 47 percent.
Kendall Ong is on the side of keeping the peace. He owns Mane Attraction salon in Phoenix and talking politics is not good for business.
"As a business man it's not a good idea, because you are going to disagree with 50 percent of the people. We want to service everybody. We want to take care of 100 percent of the people," he says.
Stylists here learn the latest in cut and color techniques, but they also learn the rare art of diplomacy -- also known as changing the subject.
"We have to kind of walk that fine line. And if it's necessary, we can flip flop just like regular politicians."
Kendall knows in 5 weeks, when the election is over, the conversation will change.
So the next time you think of bringing up politics, during a hair cut, just remember…
"Most clients seem to agree with us we have sharp implements. We're right next to their head, we can totally change the look until the inauguration," he laughs.
