Marisela RomeroTUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The mother of a Tucson teenager who was fatally shot on Mount Lemmon two years ago has filed a lawsuit against a woman acquitted in the case.
Rosemary Leon is seeking unspecified damages for grief and mental suffering and also wants to be reimbursed for her son's funeral and burial costs.
The Arizona Daily Star (http://bit.ly/QGKHZd) says Leon filed the lawsuit against 20-year-old Marisela Romero last month in Pima County Superior Court.
A jury acquitted Romero of negligent homicide last October in the shooting of 18-year-old Rene Carillo during a camping trip.
Romero told authorities she thought the handgun wasn't loaded and she only intended to scare Carrillo on Sept. 10, 2010.
Leon's suit claims Romero was behaving negligently when she pulled the trigger and shot Carillo in the head.
