
Jorge LeyvaA valley man is behind bars, accused of trying to bite a Mesa police officer several times.
Police were called to the near Mesa Drive and Broadway Road early Saturday morning about a man who was trying to gain entrance to a house.
When officers arrived at the scene, two men were attempting to hold down the suspect, who later began fighting and resisting.
During the struggle, the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jorge Leyva, attempted to bite an officer's arm several times, according to the police report.
Another officer tased Leyva and he was taken into custody.
The investigation later revealed that Levya was yelling in front of the home. Someone exited the residence and Leyva demanded a cell phone from them. When the person refused, Leyva picked up a large rock, began chasing them with it and threw it through their truck's window.
Police say Leyva also broke the home's gate to the back yard.
After his release from an area hospital, Levya was booked on aggravated assault on a police officer, trespassing, criminal damage, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia charges. He also had an outstanding warrant.
