"The brown cloud" seen over the Phoenix skylinePHOENIX (AP) - The winter air-pollution season began Monday for metropolitan Phoenix.
Environmental regulators say they will issue no-burn-day advisories when particulate pollution levels are expected to reach unhealthy levels.
Such advisories mean people and businesses must refrain from burning wood in fireplaces, woodstoves or outdoor fire pits.
Violations of no-burn-day rules can result in fines.
