The bike is usually locked up, but Saturday Bob Boschee had it sitting in front of his house while waiting to go for a ride.

He's raised thousands for servicemen and women and is hoping the bike will show back up at his home.

Boschee said within a matter of seconds, someone stole his $4,000 road bike that he set in front of his house before a ride Saturday morning.

"Took it out of the store room, rolled it in front of the cars in the carport, leaned it up outside the glass to my laundry room door. I walked across my house, across the bedroom to say goodbye to my wife and as soon as I got to my bedroom, I saw the security motion light come on. I walked back, came around the corner and the bike was gone," Boschee said.

Boschee said whoever took his bike came up through the car port between the cars and came right up to his front door. It was 4:30 in the morning, he believes someone was watching him.

"I think they had to have been and waited for an opportunity, for a few seconds to turn my back," Boschee said.

Boschee needs the bike because on Oct. 10 he's riding 430 miles from Scottsdale to San Diego.

It's part of the Ride 430 Challenge that raises money for America's injured military service people and their families.

Sixty people participate in the ride including injured veterans.

"Some of them can't make all the miles," Boschee said. "We help push them on the bike up the mountains because it's important to us they participate all the way."

Boschee said he can borrow a bike but riding a different one on short notice will be difficult and painful.

"I would love to go out and see my bike leaning up against my door again," Boschee said. "There would be no questions asked, they would be doing a service to their country by bringing my bike back to me because my bike and I have important work to do over the next 10 days."
