PHOENIX -

Some valley moms raised money for men and women serving overseas through a charity motorcycle ride Saturday.

The moms are part of an organization whose members know all too well how tough it is to have loved ones in the military.

The motorcycle ride Yvonne Olson participated in Saturday had special meaning because she rode with her son Michael, a veteran who served overseas for an entire year.

"Everyday you wait and hope for a phone call to see if he's okay," said Olson, a member of Central Arizona Blue Star Moms.

Dozens gathered at the American Legion Post 41. in support of the central Arizona moms and to raise funds for the angel wings program, which helps soldiers fly home.

President Lisa Collins knows how tough it is to have a child in the military, her daughter is in the Air Force.

"When they are in stressful situations, they need to be deployed, they need the time to be able to come home and be surrounded by their family; the families need that too,' said Collins.

According to the latest statistics available, 1.5 million Arizona residents served in the military this past March.

Organizers of this event said all of the money raised will go towards plane tickets and care packages for those men and women.

Collins said every dollar raised helps ease the pain of war.

"I'm here for all the mothers and all the families that have loved ones overseas," said Collins.

No one knows that better than this mom herself.
