Lady Gaga tweets after 'slut' remark

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) - Lady Gaga has indirectly responded to a New York City politician who called her a "slut."

In a message on her Twitter page, the pop star didn't mention Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro. Instead, the Staten Island Advance says she thanked his Manhattan counterpart, Scott Stringer, for speaking out in her defense.

She told Stringer "You show political integrity + a modern vernacular."

Molinaro made the remark Monday during an anti-substance abuse event. He pointed to photos of the singer lighting what appears to be a marijuana cigarettes at an Amsterdam concert last week.

Stringer defended Gaga in an interview with the New York Observer's Politicker website. He said Lady Gaga "is a social justice activist and a real leader for marriage equality in this country."
