FOX 10's Dan Spindle talked to party expert Kimberly Yee about creative things you can to do to keep a game day party from becoming a snoozefest.
Kimberly's ideas for a fun football party
FOOTBALL SHAPED RICE KRISPIES
Using a traditional rice krispie recipe, substitute cocoa-flavored krispies and mold the mixture into football shapes while the mixture is warm. Decorate the seams for the top of the football with a tube of white decorating frosting.
CHOCOLATE COVERED FOOTBALL STRAWBERRIES
Dip some strawberries into some delicious melted chocolate to create the "football" color on your strawberries. Then decorate the front side of the chocolate dipped strawberry with white decorating frosting to create the threads on the strawberry "football" treat!
KIDS PIZZA WITH PEPPERONI FOOTBALL DESIGN
For adult appetizers or light bites for the kids, make some mini "football" pizzas by decorating the middle of a small bite-sized pizza with pepperoni placed in the middle of the pizza made into the design of a football. Using Kraft brand "Lunchables" Pizza kits is a quick and easy way to make these bite-sized treats!
DRINKS WITH TEAM COLORS
Serve the beverages using the colors of the teams you are rooting for to put the party in motion. The brightest colors found on the market shelves are the sports drinks. You may also find flavored fruit punches to roll out the multiple "team" colors.
Guests will love to snack on popcorn decorated with their favorite team colors during the game! Coloring popcorn may be done by using food coloring spray found in the baking and cake decorating section of the grocery store, or use food coloring combined with butter, oil, salt and corn syrup to color fresh popcorn.
MINI HOT DOGS WITH TEAM BANNERS
Whether you are serving mini hot dogs, sliders or hamburgers at the party, celebrate your favorite teams by placing a few toothpick "banners" on the foods that you are serving. You'll be sure to score some "extra points" with the guests as they "rush" for their favorite team banners!
KIDS' KICKOFF KRAFT KORNER
For the little guests at the party, organize a fun little corner around the football game and set up some easy crafts. Foam crafts with football-themed stickers are easy to decorate and can be a fun take-home item for the kids!
SIDELINE FOOTBALL FOOT MASSAGE
For the adult guests at the party, and particularly those guests who "aren't so much" into the game, hire a professional massage therapist or pedicurist and have an area off to the side for guests to pamper themselves. There are many "mobile" massage therapists who bring their own massage table or massage chair...this would be a great treat for those who want to sneak away from the stress of the game.
Hold a fun raffle at the party and give away gifts that you, as the host, can provide or ask your guests to bring a donated gift to the party for the raffle-time! This is a great way to clean out your over-flowing gift closet. You may also purchase affordable football-themed prizes to give away that are found at a local party store.
FOOTBALL TRIVIA GAME
Provide some interactive fun between the football game's commercials with a game of "Football Trivia." Football questions and answers for this game are easily found on the internet.
PENALTY FLAG PARTY FAVORS
Using a yellow napkin or tissue paper to wrap around a lollipop, tie with a matching yellow ribbon, and you have a penalty flag party favor ready for the game!
FOOTBALL SHAPED RICE KRISPIES
Using a traditional rice krispie recipe, substitute cocoa-flavored krispies and mold the mixture into football shapes while the mixture is warm. Decorate the seams for the top of the football with a tube of white frosting or cake decorating gel.
ASU "SUN DEVILED" EGGS
Using a recipe for deviled eggs, top the yolk mixture with green seams for the top of the football shaped deviled egg. Chives, green onions or green beans may be used to create the green-colored seams.
LIME ASTRO-TURF JELLO MARTINIS
Chill green lime-flavored jello in a martini glass and top with whipped cream and a football shaped cocoa-rice krispie.
GOAL POST GUACAMOLE
Using a rectangular-shaped dish to depict a football field, fill guacamole in the dish and decorate the yard lines using white sour cream or white decorating gel. Add goal posts using popsicle sticks or skewers. To secure the goal posts to stand upright in the dish of guacamole, stick the popsicle sticks or skewers into a piece of mozzarella cheese and insert into the green football "field" of guacamole.
