MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) -

A family is telling quite a story of survival after someone drove a truck right into the restaurant where they were having breakfast.

Rich Hudson was there finishing his breakfast when the pickup truck slammed right through the brick wall of the Betty Ross restaurant, a little mom and pop eatery on John R. in Madison Heights.

Rich's son and girlfriend had gone outside to smoke a cigarette around 11:15 Wednesday and say they spotted the F-150 pickup coming across the parking lot and then through the wall.

Customers rushed to help Rich who was in shock and didn't immediately move after the crash and also helped a woman who was seated nearby and was trapped under a table. Miraculously no one was hurt. It's not clear why the driver of the truck hit the gas instead of the brake.

Julia Palevic doesn't know when the restaurant will be able to reopen, she says the building is condemned for now, but she's just grateful everyone is okay.
