Trimming car insurance could save you money

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Are you looking for ways to save money? Why not take a close look at your car insurance? Car insurance is one of those things we buy, but then forget about it.  But you don't have to get stuck with the same old premium. So here are some ways to cut back on that premium!

First, ask yourself, "How old is your car?"  What is it worth?  If it's over 10 years old and not worth much, then you may want to consider dropping the more expensive collision and comprehensive insurance.

If you have a little money in the bank, you could consider raising your deductible.

Many people save money by bundling policies. Wrapping in car and home insurance could get you a discount.

Are you paying the right rate? Here are some points to consider. Maybe you've shortened your commute, you've moved, you now have a garage. Did your teen take driver education classes? Does you teen qualify for a good student rate? These little things can add up to big discounts.

Do you have points for bad driving? Did you know that you can take defensive driving courses that can lower that number and maybe lower your rate?

And finally, have you shopped around for a better deal lately? You might be surprised what's out there.

Here's a checklist: Trim Car Insurance

1. Reduce Coverage
2. Raise Deductible
3. Bundle Policies
4. Lower Rate
5. Driving Courses
6. Shop Around
