ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -

A bomb scare forced an evacuation of an area surrounding a Del Taco fast food restaurant in Roseville near the Macomb Mall Tuesday afternoon.

"Individual came to Del Taco and ordered food, sat down and then started talking to himself about today is the day of recrimination and all sinners must pay for their evil ways, et cetera.  His rhetoric got more and more inflamed, and then he made mention of the fact that he had a bomb on his person and that sinners must pay.  So, the restaurant employees immediately called us and exited the building, and we came in and took him into custody," said Roseville Police Chief James Berlin.

The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad came and checked the suspect's backpack.  They found it only contained books and toiletries.

We're told the suspect is in his late twenties and has no criminal history, but is under a doctor's care for mental problems.  He was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.

Workers have been allowed to return to the businesses that were evacuated, and southbound Gratiot between 14 Mile and Masonic has been reopened to traffic.
