A two-vehicle crash seriously injured a mother and her 4-month-old daughter in Tempe Wednesday morning, near Rural Road and Guadalupe Road.
A car was stopped at a crosswalk waiting for a family to cross when it was rear-ended by a pickup truck. The car hit the two parents walking with their baby girl in a stroller, police said.
The mother, 30-year-old Amy Berarde, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Berarde's 4-month-old daughter was transported to a hospital in serious condition. The father, 33-year-old Daniel Berarde, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries
The driver of the car, 59-year-old Ruben Garcia Montalbo was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, 25-year-old Michael Angel Ontiveros Jr., was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Ontiveros Jr. was arrested and taken into custody because of prior warrants in no relation to this accident.
The couple were walking a dog, a Boxer, that was found after the accident.
The lanes near Rural Road and Guadalupe Road are now open.

Two pedestrians, a father and a mother, and their infant were taken to a hospital. The 33-year-old father has non-life threatening injuries, the 30-year-old mother is in critical condition and the 4-month-old baby is in very serious condition.
