CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Mitt Romney will officially be nominated as the Republican candidate for president Tuesday. After a delay for Hurricane Isaac, the RNC is underway in Tampa.
FOX's Jennifer Davis reports that it's full speed ahead in Florida, as Republicans got their delayed convention back on track, with some high-profile prime time speakers and some serious party business to attend to.
Mitt Romney and running-mate Paul Ryan arrived in Tampa Tuesday.
Romney's wife Ann will give a speech Tuesday night, and her husband will be by her side, supporting her. He is scheduled to speak on Thursday.
New Jersey governor Chris Christie will deliver the keynote speech – and he has remained tight-lipped about its contents. He said he has nothing but hope for how Romney could potentially lead the country.
"I know this guy," Christie said. "I'm working for him. I'm committed to him."
Marc Rubio spoke to South Carolina delegates Tuesday as well.
"The tremendous honor I'll have Thursday," Rubio said, "introducing the next president of the United States."
While protests continue to rage, Republicans inside the forum said they're looking forward to showing off their candidate and their party to the country.
"We're a wide party that has a lot to offer for the future security for our nation," one supporter said.
Even as they move forward with the schedule for the next couple days, Republican leaders said they're monitoring Hurricane Isaac very carefully, and they aren't ruling out the possibility the storm could cause them to still make more changes.
