DETROIT (WJBK) -

Vice President Joe Biden was in Detroit Wednesday to rally support for the president's re-election.  Almost 12,000 people packed Renaissance High School to hear him talk about jobs, the economy and Michigan making a comeback.

This was an event full of familiar faces.  Congressman John Conyers gave a speech.  Representative Hansen Clarke was also there.  Biden was introduced by Michigan's own Olympic gold medallist boxer Claressa Shields from Flint.

Once Biden took the podium, he touted the success of General Motors and the Obama administration.

"Folks, I've got a bumper sticker for you.  Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive."

The crowd erupted into applause.  Biden also talked about the importance of healthcare and jobs for everyone and Michigan making a comeback.

"That has never been a good bet to bet against America.  Never!  Never!  Never!  So ladies and gentlemen, let's meet this moment.  Let's meet this moment together.  With your help, we will win Michigan, and we will win this country."

"It was a wonderful speech talking about healthcare, jobs back to the community and General Motors is still alive," said Leslie Johnson.

"People don't have a dollar in their pocket.  A millionaire (isn't) going to build a factory to sell him a widget, and so the money trickles up, not down," said Thomas Wilson.

"People are getting back to work, and the country's moving back into prosperity," said Anthony Durany.

We were told Biden was headed to another event Wednesday night at a West Bloomfield country club where the cost was $500 to attend and $10,000 for a personal meet and greet and a picture with the vice president.
