Glendale Police responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of University of Phoenix stadium Friday night, while the Cardinals were playing the Raiders in their first preseason game.
About 9:30 p.m., there was an altercation between two males in the Purple Lot, near the Hampton Inn and just north of the stadium.
A man in his 30s was shot and taken to the hospital. He is in stable condition and expected to survive.
Police spokeswoman officer Tracey Breeden says the shooting appears to be "fan based" but would provide no other details. She said Saturday that both men were wearing NFL insignia clothing.
Breeden says the alleged shooter called police during the second-half of Friday night's game saying he had accidentally shot another man. He was detained for questioning but released pending more investigation. An arrest was not made.
There were few people in the University of Phoenix Stadium overflow parking lot because the shooting happened during the game. She didn't know if the men had attended the game or were there to view it in a nearby hotel or bar.
Breeden said no names are being released and charges are possibly pending on both parties.
