SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -
Police have made it clear they believe 55-year-old Patrick Mikes was murdered. Now they're following tips they hope will lead to his body and his missing bike.
From SkyFox we could see one search area -- the Flint River in Montrose. Investigators used a raft and waded through the water. They also circulated a flyer with a picture of one of the family's cars, a silver-gray Infiniti.
"They stopped by and had a flyer of the vehicle to see if there was any familiarity, if they had seen it in the area," said Debbie Brown.
"He asked me if I had seen that car, and when he showed me the picture I said, 'Yeah, I seen it Sunday,'" Bruce Bunn explained.
Police believe the car, one of two vehicles they impounded, may have been used to move the body. The extensive search in Montrose turned up nothing.
"They're going all out to try and find whatever it is that might be out there," Brown said.
Police said another tip led them to the Holly Road Recreation Area, an 8,000 acre, heavily wooded facility. They're also searching several other undisclosed locations.
As we've reported, Mikes was last seen alive Thursday night. His sons did not report him missing until Sunday. A large amount of blood was found in the basement of the family's Troy home, and investigators say 21-year-old Patrick Mikes, Junior, who is a suspect, was caught on surveillance video buying cleaning supplies. He was locked up accused of stealing his brother credit card, but we're told his grandparents posted a $50,000 bond.
"It's really, really nerve racking," said Brown. "It's very quiet, and then for something like this to happen, it just kind of shakes the whole community."
Police will continue to search remote and widespread areas using cadaver dogs until they find Mikes' body. We're told the search will continue this weekend.
