Woman, 23, killed in Waterford car accident

Posted: Updated:
WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

It was a horrific scene on Highland Road near Elizabeth Lake just after 3:00 a.m. Thursday.  There wasn't much left of a 2007 Chevy Aveo after the car slammed into an Aunt Millie's delivery truck, which was stopped at a light.

A man who lives nearby said the impact jolted him awake.

"The crash and commotion and stuff, it woke me, and then I looked out the window and didn't see anything," said Charlies Highfield.

23-year-old Brittany Rose Morgan of White Lake died at the scene.  According to her Facebook page, she recently graduated from Oakland University where she studied psychology and Chinese language.  Her family members declined to talk with reporters.

Police say the driver of the delivery truck, a 42-year-old man from Royal Oak, was not hurt.  They also say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Police also say the drivers of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.  They're still trying to figure out what caused the crash, but neighbors say it is a bad intersection where they often see serious accidents.

"People just don't seem to want to do the speed limit.  They're coming 55, 60 miles an hour between Meijer's and coming down here all the time and that.  I'm doing  45 to 50 myself going down here to Meijer's and that, and they're passing me like I'm standing still," Highfield said.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the deadly accident or has any information to come forward.
