Detroit police would like to question this man caught on tape.
DETROIT (WJBK) -
A man was caught on camera exposing himself on a Detroit playground. We first brought you the story Wednesday night. After our story aired, viewers called in tips to police, and a suspect is now in custody.
Police are not confirming this, but someone who is working closely with detectives on the case told us that it was the suspect's parents who saw the news last night, picked up the phone and called authorities so they could turn in their son.
"I am so elated. I'm just one voice crying in the wilderness to help our community, and we have accomplished ... getting one person off the street," said Kristina Carr.
She could not just sit by and do nothing when she looked out of her window and saw a 38-year-old man from Detroit sitting there doing a lot.
"I looked and looked again. I said, 'Oh, he couldn't be doing what I think he's doing,'" Carr explained. "He was masturbating."
She could not believe it, and she didn't think anyone else would, either, so she grabbed her camera and started recording him. Carr showed that video to her neighbors, Fox 2 and Detroit Police because she wanted the creep to be caught, and Thursday morning, a suspect was arrested and taken into police custody. He now awaits his day in court.
"I was told that his parents saw it and they informed the police, but there was several calls that went in because of the showing on the news," she said. "I'm so proud of the community working together and Fox 2 because you did a lot. You did a lot. You actually exposed him to an open shame," Carr said. "We've all come together, and with the leads, the police were able to just come in and move quickly to apprehend the suspect."
The management of the apartment complex on the city's west side passed out a notice to all residents updating them on the situation, thanking them for getting involved and calling Detroit Police and Fox 2 News.
