Work crews have made tremendous progress on building an addition for the Snellville woman recovering from flesh-eating bacteria.
Pulte Homes is just a week into the 40-day project and, with their partners, they've already accomplished what usually takes more than a month.
More than two dozen people are working against the clock, hoping to have it finished by the time Aimee Copeland comes home from rehab.
Stephen Haines of Pulte Homes took FOX 5's Russ Spencer inside Aimee's 2,000 square foot, two-story wing, which essentially doubles the size of the Copeland's home.
Everything is designed with her disabilities and her desires in mind. The home will feature wide doors, grab bars – even an elevator.
Aimee met with the architect for the first time while still in intensive care. She met with the interior designer this past weekend to choose colors and fabrics.
Ryan Lewis, Pulte's vice president for construction, says he thought he'd have to call in favors to get it done in 40 days, but that's not what happened.
"Every call we made, it was, 'Whatever it takes.' It's been a lot of long days of execution, a lot of long nights of planning," said Lewis.
There will be a private study on the first floor with a two-sided fireplace where Aimee can finish her thesis.
A wide open room upstairs with a cathedral ceiling will assist Aimee in continuing her rehab.
Even local government joined in the effort to help Aimee. Pulte said that it usually takes two weeks to get a building permit for a project this size.
In this case, approval came in one day.
