What would you do with $250,000? That's the prize in a small business contest, and a handful of business owners here in the valley are trying to win it.
Meet Scott Kelly. He started Black Dog Promotions, a digital marketing agency. He wants to expand his company.
Scott knows exactly what he would do with the grant.
"The grant will allow us to hire software developers to develop the software and provide a tool a valuable tool for businesses around the country to market themselves," says Kelly.
He found out about the contest on Facebook.
Living Social and Chase Bank are sponsoring the contest and putting up the $3 million pot.
"I think it's a great opportunity in this economy. Small businesses need all the help they can get. They need help to stay afloat, help to grow and hire people."
12 grants will be awarded around the country. To win you have to get votes on Facebook. Kelly loves the idea.
"In the process you actually build fans. The voting process allows you to get the word and ultimately be a recipient of the grant money."
Competition is tough. Lots of hopefuls around the country are pitching their companies and begging for votes on Facebook.
"Our company is applying for a small business grant."
It's easy to vote. But the hopefuls have to get their friends and strangers to vote.
The contest has already been a plus for Kelly. He's picked up new clients.
The contest is over in three days, but it will take a few weeks to verify the votes. Kelly says he'll let us know if he is a winner.
