PHOENIX (AP) - A Peoria man who's the husband of a former federal official has been arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of a 7-year-old girl.
Peoria police say 67-year-old Terry Peters is being held in Maricopa County's downtown Phoenix jail on suspicion of sexual misconduct with a minor and sexual abuse. He was arrested Saturday in northern Arizona.
His wife is former U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary Peters, who held the job from 2006 to 2009.
Peoria police conducted an investigation on June 18 after they were contacted by family members of the girl.
Peoria police say the alleged sexual conduct occurred in 2009 and 2010.
Terry Peters' lawyer, former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods, didn't immediately return a call Monday seeking comment on his client's case.
