When it gets hot and you don't have air conditioning, what are you supposed to do? One suggestion from a doctor is a fan and spray bottle. The fan will create airflow that will help to dry your skin. That will help your body sweat, and that's what helps you keep cool.
Next let's talk food. When you're trying to help your body keep its cool, forget about sitting down to that big steak dinner. You need to put less fuel on your inner fires. Foods like meats and other proteins only increase your metabolic rate and that also increases water loss.
Now, let's talk about the heat illnesses that you can get.
Heat cramps are painful spasms usually in the legs. They are usually best treated with sips of water.
Heat exhaustion is heavy sweating, weakness, and cold, pale, clammy skin. The best thing to do is get the victim out of the sun immediately and get that person cool. Cool, wet cloths do the trick.
Finally, heat stroke is serious stuff. It's a high body temperature of 106 degrees or above. The skin is hot and dry. The pulse is rapid and strong. The first thing you need to do is call 911 or get that person to a doctor.
