The owner of a smoke shop has been found murdered inside her store, and friends say she was worried something like this was going to happen to her.
It happened at a smoke shop is in Mesa near Main and Greenfield.
Police say the woman who died had been robbed before. They have not yet released her name, or said how she died, just that her body showed obvious signs of trauma.
Customers say the woman who owned Cigarettes 4 Less was their friend. So much so, they did work for her for free.
Bonnie Lanchman helped her with the sign in front of the store just Sunday morning.
"Her and I were painting the sign and laughing, getting it done, she was painting it with her makeup brush, did not have her brush here," says Lanchman.
Sunday night, someone killed the shop owner. Another customer came in and found her dead behind the counter.
"I was so afraid something like this would happen to her after the one time she got robbed at gunpoint, it scared me half to death," says customer Carolyn Jewell.
Customers came by all day Monday bringing flowers.
"This is so crazy someone has to kill someone else to steal money that is not theirs. She was a good person very good," says Susan Lewis.
The woman worked all by herself in the store. Mesa police say it appears to be a robbery gone bad.
The smoke shop had a video surveillance system, but mesa police have not yet said whether it was working or released any videos.
Update: The victim has been identified as Mi-Sum Price, aka "Mimi", age 51.
