As we go into Father's day weekend, one valley woman is working to save her father's life by selling some household items. Her father needs surgery, but does not have insurance to cover the costs.
Nicky Stringham says she will stop at nothing to raise the $46,000 it will take to pay for her father's double bypass surgery. Her dad recently had his second heart attack, so she is working quickly.
Friday, she and her family held a garage sale in Peoria.
Every dollar counts for Nikki Stringham. The money collected in the garage sale will help pay for her father's double bypass surgery.
Dave Webb is a father of three, now grandfather. He's a car mechanic at a small mom and pop shop. The little company does not provide health insurance and Webb can't afford his own.
This garage sale is the first of several events Stringham is holding to save her father's life.
"We have all this amazing stuff, from all these amazing wonderful people."
Plenty of things are up for sale including TVs and couches. These items were donated by family members, but Stringham says the majority of these items here were dropped off by complete strangers -- people who heard about the garage sale and just wanted to help.
The generous donations move Stringham to tears.
"These people have never even met my father before. It's amazing, there are genuine, nice people out there."
Stringham is also grateful to the folks buying today. They are helping the man she says normally takes care of others.
"Give anything he had, his last dollar if you needed, incredible, generous, wonderful man."
The family will hold another garage sale Saturday morning. They have also set up a bank account for donations.
