DETROIT (WJBK) -
These guys spent their days and nights watching over inmates inside the Wayne County Jail, and we're sure they are praying right now that they don't end up becoming inmates themselves because they know what it's like in there.
Matthew Czarnecki, Alan Oliver, Marcus Hall, Jeffrey Hill and Bryan Milano are all in their twenties or thirties and all five used to be deputies with duties inside the Wayne County Jail. That is until they were given the temporary boot, suspended without pay, and now facing felonies.
What for? Three men doing a bid behind bars allege that instead of guarding the inmates, those deputies were ganging up on them and roughing them up repeatedly.
The three inmates, who call themselves victims, are accusing the deputies of hitting, punching and kicking them inside their cells. These alleged actions sent the inmates to the hospital for their injuries.
All of these incidents were said to have happened between 2009 and 2010 inside the older jail at Beaubien and Clinton inside Division 1, and there are no security cameras in that section.
The alleged beatings were brought to the attention of jail personnel. Internal Affairs investigated and turned their findings over to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
In the end, the men were charged with assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, misconduct in office and filing a false felony report.
We are hearing that the suspects have posted bond, but we know there are some of you at home wondering since these allegations date back to 2009 and 2010, then why are we just hearing about this now? We were told that once the prosecutor's office received the warrant, they conducted their own investigation and because there are three cases, it was a very long process to get each defendant charged.
