CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
One more thing, about a plan Chicago has to create more fun spots for people to gather in the city. I'm not so sure this is a good idea.
The program is called "Make Way for People." It includes replacing parking spots on designated streets with public seating on temporary decks. These "people spots" will stay up until late Fall.
Really? Is this what we need in the city? Fewer parking spaces?
Another part of the program will be something called "People Streets." These are streets that would be narrowed, cul-de-sacked, or closed off with planters and street furniture. If it works for the community, it can be made permanent.
So now in addition to construction and tourist traffic, we'll have to deal with people taking over streets and using them for their summer cocktail parties.
And there's another part to this plan. Something called "People Alleys." At night, when Chicago alleys are not used that much, tables and chairs would be put out for art exhibitions or live music in an alley.
Now there's an appealing idea. Grab some food and meet your friends next to the dumpster out back for an evening of fun inhaling foul fumes from the day's garbage while your dodging three-foot rats scampering across your feet.

Over the weekend, the Tom Cruise sci-fi thriller "Oblivion" was number one at the box office. But the movie I'm talking about wasn't even in the top ten.
