Atlanta Weather Forecast - Friday

Updated:
ATLANTA, Ga. -
TRANSITIONING TO DRIER WEATHER FOR THE WEEKEND

After a cold front pushed areas of rain/storms through yesterday, most of north Georgia is now positioned behind this front and in drier air.  Despite being a cold front, though, temperatures will only be climbing higher - and humidity will remain at typical summer levels.  With the front stalling out near Macon for today, a few afternoon thundershowers will be possible well south of I-20.  Otherwise, expect partly cloudy skies and highs near 90.

RIVALING HOTTEST TEMPERATURES OF THE SEASON SATURDAY & SUNDAY

Last weekend was a soggy washout.  This weekend's headline will be the heat!  With lots of sunshine and very little chance of rain all weekend long, temperatures will climb into the 90s both weekend days.  The hottest temperatures Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has recorded so far in 2014 is 93 degrees.  We should return to 93 by Sunday afternoon.

POWERFUL COLD FRONT USHERS IN BIG CHANGES NEXT WEEK

The next cold front will swing through on Monday.  With it, we can expect stronger thunderstorms.  We'll be keeping an eye on it throughout the weekend.  While widespread severe weather is not expected at this time, this is part of the forecast that may change before Monday.  Overall, Monday is a partly to mostly cloudy day with a 40% chance of thunderstorms.  Once the front passes, the humidity will drop significantly and we'll have a couple of dry days Tuesday and Wednesday with cooler, comfortable mornings, and warm (but not too hot) afternoons.
