This was a brutal murder and it happened in a quiet neighborhood.
Phoenix Police believe a former boyfriend might have information that can help with the investigation.
Police believe 62-year-old Anne Marie Simensen was murdered sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Thursday.
Police are saying only that she suffered "obvious trauma."
Her red 2005 Toyota Solara convertible is missing.
Simensen lived in the home for some 10 years.
"We have known her for quite awhile..a dog lover, really open-hearted woman always bringing over things..she has grown in the yard and stuff like that, really a nice lady," said Sal Cannizzo, a neighbor.
Cannizzo and his wife Margaret live a couple doors down from Simensen's home. They were having their cabinets redone and Alex Crespin was doing the work, going in and out of the house all day long for the last couple of weeks, but nobody saw any sign of trouble.
"It was pretty sad, I can not believe it..just being here, so close, I do not know what the guy's agenda was," said Crespin of AZ Unique Cabinets.
Phoenix police say shortly after the murder, a middle-aged man wielding a knife robbed the nearby Safeway store's pharmacy at Cave Creek and Tatum, stealing some oxycodone.
Police want to talk to Simensen's former boyfriend, 53-year-old Wade Ridley. They hope he can help with the investigation.
Simensen's Toyota Solara has an Arizona license plate: C9590. If you see the car, police say to call 911.
