We're getting an inside look at the cockroach-infested home belonging to an El Mirage couple arrested for child abuse.
Richard and Sabrina Garcia's home was full of trash and rotting food -- and the pictures may disturb you. El Mirage police said they've never been inside a house that was so dirty.
There were thousands of cockroaches all over the house -- in the sink, coming out of cupboards, and even in the fridge crawling in food.
Six children between the ages of 4 and 12 were turned over to CPS and placed in a grandparent's custody.
"It was very sad to see that and seeing the pictures, it's just overwhelming," says Detective Robert Peoples from the El Mirage Police Department. "One of the little kids had actually cockroaches crawling on him and actually when he was walking through the house he stepped in piles of refried beans on the floor."
Officers were first called out to the home for an argument on Sunday night. When they arrived, police say Sabrina Garcia blamed her kids for the condition of the home.
"The kids actually complained about the bugs crawling on them and she told the kids it was their fault and they need to clean up their own mess."
At her initial court hearing, Sabrina Garcia asked the judge if she could go back home to clean up.
"Can I just go home like right now and start cleaning up everything that the officers want me to fix," she asked the judge. Garcia was released and her friends helped her clean the house.
Despite the arrest, the couple's friends say they love their kids. They say she's a loving mother who made a mistake and wants her kids back.
As for Richard Garcia, he's being held on a $5,000 bond. Both were charged with 6 counts of child abuse.
