Bail is set at $750,000 for a Mesa man suspected of killing his girlfriend and living with her decomposing body for two months.
35-year-old Erik Grumpelt is charged with second-degree murder.
Upset after she told him she had sex with other men in his bed, he told investigators he hit the woman with his knee several times in the ribs while she was lying down.
That was back in mid-May. After realizing she died -- court records show Grumpelt put the body under the bed.
As the smell of the decomposing corpse got worse, police say he wrapped the body in sheets and used air fresheners, carpet powder, air conditioners and a fan, to mask the odor.
He also changed the locks on his apartment, located near Country Club and Southern, so that no one would try to enter.
On Monday -- officers found the body of 39-year-old Malinda Raya on the floor after Grumpelt wrote a letter to his dad saying he accidentally killed his girlfriend and was living with her body.
The suspect then tried to take his own life by overdosing on drugs. It was his father who called 911 to report the confession.
