CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — Police have located and arrested a Chandler man they were searching for in connection with the fatal shooting of his 19-year-old girlfriend.
Chandler police Sgt. Joe Favazzo said 18-year-old Eric Coulter was found and arrested in Mesa on Saturday night.
Favazzo said investigators following leads in the case were able to locate Coulter and take him into custody without incident.
Details of the arrest -- such as the location -- were not disclosed.
Coulter was taken in for questioning, and police said they plan to book Coulter into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office jail for murder.
Police said Coulter ran from his home at 56th Street and Ray after his father was awoken by the sound of a gun shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday.
Coulter’s father found Monique Cota on the floor, dead from a gunshot wound.
Cota lived with Coulter and his parents off and on.
Neighbors and police said on Saturday that they thought law enforcement had been called to the home for problems between the couple in the past.
