PHOENIX (AP) — Federal authorities say a man considered one of Rhode Island's most wanted fugitives has been arrested in Arizona.
The U.S. Marshals Service said Wednesday that deputies took 34-year-old Ramon Virola into custody at a west Phoenix home where he was living under an assumed identity.
They say Virola was wanted by Providence police for a 2004 homicide.
Authorities say Virola and three other suspects robbed a college student at gunpoint in August 2004 and Virola allegedly killed the victim by shooting him in the chest.
The other three suspects were arrested, but Virola fled the scene and had been on the run since then.
Authorities recently received tips that Virola was in hiding in the Phoenix area. He was arrested without incident as he was seen leaving a residence.
