License Revoked for Mesa Doctor Accused of Abuse

Posted:

The medical license of a Mesa doctor charged with sexually abusing or assaulting 13 of his female patients has been revoked.

The Arizona Medical Board announced its decision Friday, citing the number of alleged victims and the seriousness of the charges against 44-year-old Gabriel Ogbonnaya.

The board had suspended his license in June 2010 after Mesa police arrested Ogbonnaya.

Ogbonnaya was first arrested on June 9, 2010, after two women reported they were both inappropriately touched by the doctor during routine visits.

He was released from jail two days later but was re-arrested two weeks after that after more women came forward.

The women reported that Ogbonnaya fondled them and told them to "have more sex" in incidents that happened between 2008 and 2010.

Ogbonnaya has pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of sexual abuse and one count of sexual assault. His trial is scheduled for March 22.
