Naperville District 203 teachers overwhelmingly approved the terms of a proposed 3-year contract Friday, one that calls for no increase in base pay the first year and an estimated average annual increase in base pay of 1 percent over the life of the contract.
The 1,350-member Naperville Unit Education Association voted 91.8 percent to ratify the terms of the contract, which the Board of Education will vote on Monday night.
Over the life of this contract, the estimated average annual increase in the base is 1 percent. The average annual increase in base plus step (also known as "all in") is 2 percent. A step increase is related to years teaching experience.
District 203 anticipates the actual annual average cost of salary increases during this time period to be less than 1 percent, including estimated retirements, the district said Friday.
"Not only does this agreement recognize the immediacy of the current economic situation, it also looks ahead to balance the future needs of District 203, including the need to recognize the quality of our faculty and the important role they play in our students' and this district's overall success," Superintendent Mark Mitrovich said in a news release issued Friday afternoon.
Both sides have decided not to comment on the specifics of the proposed agreement until the deal is signed. However, District 203 issued a news release late Friday outlining some of the key terms of the contract.
The District 203 Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the District 203 Administrative Center, 203 W. Hillside Road, to take a final vote regarding the agreement.
