Where will the jobs be in 2012? It's a question on many people's minds heading into the new year. Right now, the national unemployment rate stands at 8.6 percent, but it's higher in Illinois, at 10 percent. Paul Shanahan, regional vice president of the staffing firm Adecco joined us to talk about what job seekers should know heading into 2012.

Shanahan said the numbers show some positive trends. The national unemployment average is the lowest since March 2009, and the national economy added 120,000 jobs, while Illinois only added 600 in November. Still, Shanahan said, eight of the past 11 months added jobs in the state.
The industries and job sectors that will be hiring most in early 2012 are professional business services, education and health services, trade, transportation and utilities, leisure and hospitality and financial activities.

Shanahan suggested job seekers be active in networking, start fresh and be proactive, embrace social media, work with a recruiter, close gaps in their resume by volunteering and take educational courses.
